Taranaki Adult Literacy Services
Taranaki Adult Literacy Service Incorporated is a not for profit charitable organisation that provides literacy and numeracy tutoring for adult learners. The organisation is a member of Literacy Aotearoa and Taranaki TimeBank.
Their qualified tutors empower students to set goals and work towards achieving these. They offer one-on-one tutoring and small group training, free of charge, at their offices on the corner of Liardet and Lemon Streets. Verbal communication, support your child’s learning, road code theory, writing for a purpose and NCEA Levels 1 and 2 are their group courses. You can learn at your own speed in a friendly and supportive environment.
They also provide community education courses in Conversational Te reo Māori, NZ sign language, and Kiwi English. They are the place to learn New Zealand’s three official languages.
Taranaki Adult Literacy Services regularly recruits new tutors. As part of their process, trainees complete an online course in NZCALNE Vocational and work with students as volunteers while training. Once qualified tutors have the option to also be casually employed.
Taranaki Adult Literacy Services is looking for collaborative partnerships with other community organisations, particularly those that provide educational resources, have skilled trades people, support those with disabilities, and youth organisations. Giving back to the community and helping people on their lifelong learning journey is especially rewarding. You’re never too old to learn something new.
