Who can enter the Business Excellence Awards?
All Taranaki businesses are welcome to enter the TSB Taranaki Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards provided they have been in business for 12 months or more.
You do not have to be a member of the Taranaki Chamber of Commerce to enter.
Is there a cost to enter the Business Excellence Awards?
There is no cost to enter the Awards. However, entrants must purchase at least two tickets to the Awards Gala Evening on Saturday 30th October 2021. Tickets are $150+GST or a table of 10 is $1400+GST.
What Category do I enter?
To be eligible for the Supreme Award, entrants must enter an award in both Categories A and B. Entrants may also choose to enter Category C.
Entrants may only enter one Award in Category A and B and can choose to enter up to two Awards in Category C.
Entrants can choose to enter Category C only but will not be eligible for the Supreme Award.
Based on the judging criteria in Categories A and B, it is recommended that entrants in these categories will have been in business for a minimum of three years.
Please note: Not-for-Profit organisations and New and Emerging Businesses cannot enter Category A.
How do I enter the awards?
1. Go to www.taranakibusinessawards.co.nz
2. Please read Important Information, Eligibility, Terms and Conditions of Entry and FAQ’s.
3. Complete the online entry form and submit. (Helpful Hint: Doing this earlier rather than waiting until near the closing date will give you more time to complete the next part of the process as detailed below).
4. Within 48 hours you will receive an email from the Judging Facilitator with confirmation of your entry and a Business Information form requiring detailed information from you. This information will be supplied to your Judges prior to your interview and helps to provide an overview of your business.
5. Please ensure that you return the completed Business Information form to the Judging Facilitator by 5.00pm Tuesday 24 August.
When do entries close?
Entries open at 9:00am, Monday 19 July and close at 5:00 pm on Friday 20 August 2021.
What happens next ?
You will be contacted by your judges who will arrange an interview/s. Entrants must be prepared to be available for judging interviews between Monday 6 September to Friday 15 October.
Please note: There is a different panel of judges for each category. If you enter the maximum number of four categories, then you will have four separate interviews.
What will the judges require?
FOR ALL CATEGORY A AND B AWARDS, AS WELL AS NEW AND EMERGING BUSINESS AND NOT FOR PROFIT IN CATEGORY C
Category A Awards – Large Business, Medium Business, Small Business (judged on Overall Business Excellence)
Category B Awards – Manufacturing or Engineering, Technology, Service, Trades (judged on Excellence within the Specific Industry Sector)
Category C Awards – New and Emerging Business, Not For Profit (judged on Overall Excellence)
What do I need to bring to the judging interview?
You are required to provide proof and documentation to support the Category Questions. Please ensure that you bring either on paper or in electronic form, evidence/proof that can be submitted for perusal and judging at the interview. Questions asked will include the areas of:
- HR Management
- Strategic Planning
- Quality Assurance/Systems
- Best Business Practice and Industry related questions
If you do not wish the Judges to have access to your financial details you need to provide a Professional Accountant’s supporting letter that covers the following:
- Frequency of annual reporting
- Confirmation of sustained profitability & growth fact (by%) for the last 3 year period
- Confirmation of sufficient working capital
- Confirmation of appropriate funds for growth if required
Can I bring someone else to the judging interview?
You may bring other staff to the interview if they have knowledge about specific areas of the business that will be looked at in the judging process.
FOR ALL OTHER CATEGORY C AWARDS
Category C Awards – Innovation, Hospitality, Brand and Marketing, Employer of Choice, Environmental, Health and Safety, Business Continuity (judged on Excellence within the Specific Category entered)
What do I need to bring to the judging interview?
You are required to provide proof and documentation to support the Category Questions that will deal specifically with the Award entered into. Please ensure that you bring either on paper or in electronic form, evidence/proof that can be submitted for perusal and judging at the interview. You do not need to provide financial information to the judges but a supporting letter from a Professional Accountant would be advantageous.
Can I bring electronic equipment to the interview?
You may bring laptops, i-Pads, Tablets or other small electronic devices to assist you at the judging as we recognise you may have information stored electronically. You may also wish to show the judges examples of apps, websites etc. However please note that PowerPoint presentations are not permitted.
What happens following the judging process?
The results will be announced at the Awards Gala Evening.
All entrants will receive written feedback from the judges following the Awards Presentations. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Following the completion of the Awards, all entry and judging information will be destroyed to ensure confidentiality.
Do I need to attend the Awards Evening?
Yes - a condition of entry into the Awards is that the business purchases a minimum of two tickets to the Awards Evening. However, we encourage you to purchase additional tickets for your staff, clients or family. It is preferred that the business owners/managers attend but you may send others to represent you and accept an award if required.
