Gloria’s career in the public service began in 1978 when she started work as a Benefits clerk in Stratford. She subsequently worked in a variety of roles in the public service and was appointed as the Work and Income Regional Commissioner in October 1998.
As one of 11 Regional Commissioners for Social Development, Gloria leads a team of about 190 staff working out of 11 service centres across the region and the regional office based in New Plymouth.
Gloria’s team includes a labour market development function that assists local communities create employment opportunities and helps address skills and labour shortages by partnering with industry and business.
Gloria is Taranaki born and bred and has a strong understanding of regional and social issues, living and farming with her husband in a small rural area east of Stratford.
