Every week, the Taranaki Air Ambulance makes, transfers 7-8 carrying patients to life-changing or life-saving medical care not available in Taranaki. In 2015 the trust provided this service to 400 patients and their families. The ambulance service operates a Cessna 421 Golden Eagle pressurised aircraft which is equipped with up to date equipment. The aircraft is based at their hangar at the New Plymouth airport and the trust is funded by TDHB, sponsorship, community fundraising and project grants. The trust plans to purchase a replacement aircraft in 2018 and will be actively fundraising over the next two years to achieve that goal.
